Congratulations Dr. Tobias!
On a freezing cold day (05.12.2023), Tobias Lucas successfully defended his doctoral thesis. During his time in the research group, he worked on inexpensive and simplified synthesis routes for the production of new active pharmaceuticals against tuberculosis, HIV and SARS-CoV-2. We wish him all the best for the future!

Johannes Rocker defended his PhD thesis on 21.11.2023. He investigated the photophysical properties of polyaza[7]helicenes and their potential as new photoredox catalysts. Furthermore, he studied the albumin binding of small molecules and the associated elongation of the plasma half-life. We wish you all the best for your future!
AKTO Excursion Day 2023
This year's destination of the AKTO excursion day was the Felsenmeer in Lautertal (Odenwald). After a beautiful hike across meadows and forests, we reached the highlight of the tour, where some brave ones ventured into a climbing adventure over the Felsenmeer. We ended the day together in México Lindo with good atmosphere, delicious burros and refreshing margaritas.
Kevin participated in NOS 2023
Kevin Seipp attended this years National Organic Symposium in South Bend, hosted from 09.07.–13.07.2023 at the University of Notre Dame. He enjoyed inspiring discussions, outstanding presentations, a diverse range of topics and a stunning campus. The conference not only provided him new perspectives, but also sparked a strong sense of motivation. Furthermore, he is grateful for the positive feedback during the poster session and is looking forward to applying the new ideas he gained for his project.
Bowling Evening
On the occasion of the 50th birthday of Prof. Dr. Till Opatz we organized a bowling evening at the Phoenixbowling Center in Mainz on 05.07.2023.We had a great time together and scored a few strikes, before spending the rest of the evening at the Straußwirtschaft Weyer in Mainz-Bretzenheim, where we enjoyed delicious food and drinks.
AK Opatz participated at the GJSE 2023
This year’s German-Japanese Symposium on Electrosynthesis 2023 (GJSE-10) celebrated their 10th anniversary and was held at the Raiosha building of Keio University in Japan. Prof. Dr. Till Opatz was invited to give a presentation on “Elementary Particles in Organic Chemistry” and Paul Eckhardt had the opportunity to present his work in an oral presentation. The conference featured various inspiring talks and poster presentations by Japanese and German participants.

Leander Geske successfully defended his PhD Thesis on 30.05.2023. He worked on the total synthesis of strychnine, finished the total synthesis of phenolic natural products from orchid plants and elucidated structures of biologically active natural products. We had a great day celebrating his defense and we wish him all the best for his future!
Kevin attended Irseer Naturstofftage 2023
Kevin Seipp had the opportunity to participate in this year’s 35th Irseer Naturstofftage (26.04–28.04.2023) with a poster presentation of his recent work. He enjoyed the inspiring discussions, all the positive feedback and is still impressed by the beautiful location of Kloster Irsee.
Eli attended ACS Spring 2023
Elisabeth Quraishi had the opportunity to present a poster showing work from her PhD thesis at this year’s ACS Spring Meeting (26.03–30.03.2023) of the American Chemical Society in Indianapolis, USA. She enjoyed to be part of a big community, sharing and discussing results of current research topics and exploring new technical innovations at the expo.
